A season of questions

Every table gets one question a week to start. They begin easy and get a little more personal as the season goes, because that’s how strangers become friends.

Easy in

Weeks 1–2

Questions anyone can answer in the first five minutes with strangers.

  • What’s the best thing you ate this week?
  • What did you do last weekend that you’d do again?
  • What’s something you’re an amateur at and proud of?
  • What’s a small thing that makes a day go well?
  • Which place in your city would you show a visitor first?
  • What’s a skill you’d learn if it took a week instead of years?
  • What did you want to be when you were ten?
  • What’s the last thing that made you laugh out loud?

Getting somewhere

Weeks 3–5

Your table has formed. The questions ask for a story, not an opinion.

  • What’s changed most about your life in the last two years?
  • Who taught you something you still use every day?
  • What’s a rule you follow that nobody taught you?
  • When did you last change your mind about something big?
  • What does a perfect ordinary Tuesday look like for you?
  • What would you want a stranger to know about where you grew up?
  • What are you looking forward to this month?
  • What’s something you’ve been meaning to start?

The real stuff

Weeks 6–8

By now you know these people. These are the questions friends ask each other.

  • What’s harder about being an adult than you expected?
  • Who do you call when something good happens?
  • What’s a decision you’re glad you made even though it was hard?
  • What do you wish people asked you about more?
  • What has this table noticed about you that you didn’t expect?
  • What would you do this year if you knew it would work out?
  • What are you carrying right now that nobody knows about?
  • What do you want to remember about this season?

You never have to answer more than you want to. Passing is always fine.
